Hero Team of the Month (April)-John and Cash

John Wells, a Navy Corpsman who was transferred to USMC at Camp Lejeune where he completed combat training. After combat training he then went to the Naval Hospital in Key West for 6 month before he was sent to Vietnam. John was deployed in November 1967 where he served as a combat corpsman for the 1st Marine Division. After Vietnam John was stationed at The New London Naval Hospital in New London, Connecticut.

John was matched with Cash almost 4 years ago, at a time where he now says, “If it weren’t for Cash, I would not be here today.” Since that time, John now tries to give back in any way he can. He is a committed volunteer for Dogs Helping Heroes, spends every Wednesday at the Veteran’s Hospital visiting with other veterans and working on the Memorial at Waggener High School.

Cash is a Great Dane and lab mix who enjoys daily walks with John, chasing squirrels and the weekly trips to the Veteran’s Hospital.

John was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame at Waggener High School. Waggener will be holding a dedication ceremony on May 25, from 12 PM-4 PM. Please come out and support John and Cash at the dedication ceremony. Mission BBQ will provide 200 meals at this event.
