Meet one of our new Hero Teams in training Dustin and Geri
Geri is a black lab/retriever mix who is approximately 2 ½ years of age. He was rescued by Adopt me Bluegrass Pet Rescue and graduated from the Paws Behind Bars program. He was sponsored by Jean Lee in honor of her late husband and named Geri at her request. Geri is a very well-mannered boy that loves kids, dogs and cats. He loves to play fetch with his favorite toy. He has so much energy to burn and keeps Dustin on his toes.
“I am from a little of everywhere, but we have lived in Kentucky the longest. I am a military brat myself with several of my relatives including but not limited to my dad, grandfather, uncle and several others. I went into the Army Reserve in 1996 and then active duty Army in 1998. I medically discharged in 2004. I am as Iraq War Veteran. I have been married since 2014 and have 4 amazing kids, one of which just shipped out for Basic Training active Army in Ft. Leonard, MO. I have PTSD and I stayed at home as much as possible, but since I have had Geri my stress level is improving a little, I am able to go out a little more than I used to and he also helping me when my back or knees flare up to retrieve items for me so I don't have to bend down to get them as well as helping me up or down stairs. Geri is and will be a great battle buddy and he spoils me as much as I spoil him. He comforts me when I need it the most and is just there to support me.”
We at Dogs Helping Heroes look forward to watching Geri and Dustin grow as a Hero Team.Good boy Geri!
